312,761. Drevitson, C. B. April 17, 1928. Golf clubs.-A golf club consists of a core having approximately the shape of the completed head, and an aluminium shell cast and contracted upon the core. Fig. 2 is a section of a driver with a core 15 of wood or non-metallic composition and a shell 17 extended to form a socket 20 cast around a bushing or core 19 for the handle. The shell extends as ramifications 18 into holes drilled in the core 15 which is exposed on one side to form the striking face. The face may be bored to form a cavity 21 filled with a plug of wood, &c. which may assist to hold the core in the die. In the form of driver shown in Fig. 6, part of the core extends to the outer surface at 26<a>, while some of the ramifications extend to the striking face 27. With wooden cores, the grain extends at an angle to the striking face. In the surface on both sides, the protruding parts 33<a> being cut away flush with the shell. The socket 20 may have a flat portion 46 or corrugations to prevent twisting of the handle. In the iron shown in Fig. 9, the core consists of a plate 39 of rustless metal, such as bronze or stainless steel, with countersunk holes to receive the ramifications 43 of the shell 42. The plate 39 is extended at 44 to form a tenon for the handle socket, and is positioned in the die bv lugs 41 which are cut off flush with the shell. The core may be treated or impregnated with wax, oil, &c. to prevent swelling, shrinkage, or absorption of moisture. Specification 13531/09 is referred to.
