R. RIMMER GOLF PUT'fER Filed July 5 1 23 W'Mmsses noana'r Emma, or wre; nneaann.

Application filed m a,
To all'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT RIMMER, a
V subject of the King of Great Britain, residing in.Wigan, in the county of Lancaster and Kingdom of En land, have invented certain new and use 111 Improvements in Golf Putters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved golf putter.
Accordin sha ed anddoaded that the centre of gravity of t e head is near to the shaft. This may be accomplished by internally loading the head,'for exam 1e, with lead or other metals. Further, the tip of the head may be cut away or scolloped at the back of the striking face, either above, or underneath so that weight is removed from the toe.
I A preferred form of the lnvention will a now be described with reference toa metal putter, for example, of aluminium.
. In the drawings Fi ure 1 shows an elevation of the'head of the c ub looking towards the strikin face.
fgigure 2 is an end elevation of t e head, an
Figure 3 is a plan of the head. The club head 1, which maybe made in any convenient way, is provided with an internal cavity 2 which may be filled with lead through the aperture '3. The excess of lead is removed and the lead in the aperture 3 finished off level with the bottom 4 of the head. The club head is attached in the usual manner tothe shaft 5. The tip of the head is cut away or'scolloped at 6 in the manner shown, i. 'e. the section. removed from the Upper surface of the head is-preferably the 40 4 quadrant of a circle.
A thin brass or other metal strip 7 is arranged transversely across the head to give alignment. for the stroke.
The principle of the'invention is'that by brin'gin shaft, t ere is less tendency for the horizontal portion of the head to oscillate round the the shaft as axis. I p
The invention particularly deals with golf putters of what maybe termed the'standard type i. e. in which-the headdoes not project rearwardlyof the line of the shaft.
to the invention the putter is so the centre of gravity near to the.
1923. Serial a... ceases.
The weight is preferabl between the Shea and the centre of' the clu and centrally of the club in transverse section i. e. behind the line of the shaft.
I declare that what I claim is 1. A golf putter comprising a shaft and a head connected thereto, said head being loaded by a fixed weight situated wholly between the shaft connection to the head and the center of the head, the center of gravity of the weight being behind the line of the located wholly between the shaft connection to the head and the center of the head, the center of gravity 'of the weight being hehind the line of the shaft, that ortion of the tip of the headto the rear 0 the putting face being cut away.
4. A utter comprising ahead and a connected s aft, said head having a putting face substantially in. line with the line of' the shaft, and, a strip disposed substantially the transversely across the center of the head to give alinement for the stroke, sa'idhead havmg. an interior cavity filled with lead lo cated between said strip and the connection to the shaft, said cavity terminating at the. face of the club in a restricted outlet so as to permit molten lead to be poured into said cavity.
" In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name this 22 day of June 1923, in the presence of'two subscribing witnesses.
. I ROBERT RIMMER.
Witnesses WILLIAM TAYLOR, J. MOLACHLAN.
