Mineral and tor oils, extracting.-Solid matter in the oils produced by destructive hydrogenation of carbonaceous materials is separated bv adding sawdust, brown coal powder, or ashes such as brown coal ash or light ashes which have been deposited from flue gases, and centrifuging or filtering the mixture, The powders cause the dispersed solids to form flocks. Solvents for the oil may be added. In an example, 50 kg. of residues obtained by the destructive hydrogenation of brown coal and containing about 40 per cent of solids, are stirred at 110‹ C. with 10-15 per cent of sawdust or light ashes from flue gases. diluted and stirred with 50 kg. of heavy benzine, and filtered. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the use as flocculants of peat or acids or salts, e.g. formic acid, sulphuric acid, aluminium sulphate, or manganese resinate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
