Abstract

312,193. Akt.-Ges. fiir Tiefbohrtechnik und Maschinenbau vorm. Trauzl & Co., (Assignees of Schmidt, A.). May 19, 1928, [Convention date]. Dividing and uniting by fusion.-In a blowpipe machine for cutting and welding metals, the burner is mounted on an arrangement of supports comprising a rotary support longitudinally slidable on a bed and carrying a transversely and vertically slidable support on which is arranged a second rotary support so that the centre of its circular movements is shiftable along any horizontal direction and in the vertical direction. The longitudinal slide 2, which may be provided on its end with felt packings 111, Fig. 12, held by cover plates 112 to eliminate iron oxide from the guides, is formed with a circular base 3 on which a post 4 may he angularly adjusted and secured by a clamping ring 5. On the post is adjusted by a hand-operated screw 16 a vertical slide 15 having a lateral arm 18 for supporting the transverse slide 19, in which is mounted a rotatable support 20 for an adjustable bracket 22 carrying the burner 21. The bracket is adjusted by a rack and pinion rotated by a hand wheel 31 either direct or, after releasing a nut 34, through a planet gear, the hand wheel being connected to a spindle passing through the hollow axis of the support. When cutting articles such as connecting-rods with an axis of symmetry, two brackets side by side may be used, each carrying a separate burner and adjusted in opposite directions relatively to the axis of the support 20 by pinion and a pair of racks. In making bevelled cuts the bracket 22 is replaced by an intermediate member, Fig. 16, having a pivotable and fixable guide to receive the bracket. The burners are mounted in sockets 38 pivoted to arms 37 on the bracket 22 and secured thereto by clamps 43 and by pegs passing through the arms and through forked lugs 39 on the sockets, projections 41, Fig. 7, on the arms 37 passing through holes 40 in the sockets and into grooves 42 in the burners. The brackets are supported underneath by rollers 45 carried by bearings 44 secured to the sides of the support 20. The support 20 is rotated by a worm wheel and a worm slidably mounted on a shaft 27 and the slide 19 is traversed by a screw 29 through gearing 57, 50, Fig. 11. To the shaft 27 is keyed a ratchet wheel 47 and on a sleeve 49 carrying the wheel 50 is formed a ratchet wheel 48. Either of these wheels is connected to a combined driving pulley and flywheel 28 by a slidable collar 54 which pushes either of a pair of spring-returned pawls 55, 55<1> into contact with the wheels 47, 48. The longitudinal slide 2 is traversed by a rack 8 and pinion 9. These motions may be effected by handles 53, 11 or by power from a motor and gearing mounted on the slide 2. The power drive for the transverse or circular motion is effected from the pulley 28 by a rope and pulley 89 on a sleeve 85, Fig. 5, rotatable on a shaft 81, and for the longitudinal motion by securing the hand wheel 11 by a nut 13 to a chain wheel 12 connected by a chain to a chain wheel 92 driven through planet gear 91 from the shaft 81. The shaft 81 and sleeve 85 are driven in either direction respectively through gears 82 and 83, 84, and gears 86, 88 and 87 by toothed wheels 70, 71 and 72, 73 which are loosely mounted on a hollow shaft 69 driven by an adjustable friction gear 68, 67 under control of a spring 80 and gearing 59, 58 from the motor. The friction wheel 67 is connected to a circular rack 61 which is splined on a shaft 60 and is adjusted by a pinion on a shaft carrying a hand wheel with pointer moving over a graduated dial 66, Fig. 3, to indicate the speed. Intermediate the pinions 70, 71 and 72, 73 are spacing rings 74, 75 carrying clutch teeth and mounted on pins 76, 77 so as to drive the pinions. The pin 76 passes through a slot in the shaft 69 and is secured to the slidable hollow rod 78, and the pin 27 passes through slots in the shaft 69 and rod 78 and is secured to a slidable rod 79. The rod 78 is connected through a rotatable sleeve to one end of a bell-crank' lever 98, the other end of which engages a loose collar 96 on a control rod 94, and the rod 79 has rotatably mounted thereon a fork engaging a pin 101 on an arm 100 secured to the rod 94. The free end of the control rod carries a forked piece 103 in which is pivoted an eccentric disc 104, Fig. 17, provided with a handle 105 passing through a gate 110 on the support arm 95. The forked piece has transverse stops 106 on one side and longitudinal stops 107 on the other side to engage wedges on spring arms 108, 109 to hold the rod 94 in neutral position. Pivotal movement of the rod 94 in either direction puts in the transverse slide 19 or causes rotation of the support 20, and axial motion of the rod 94 connects the longitudinal traverse. Movement of the lever 105 into the angles of the gate connects the longitudinal and transverse drives simultaneously to effect a rectilinear cut at an angle of 45‹ to the bed. Oblique rectilinear cuts at other angles may be effected by adjusting the post angularly and driving the transverse slide, steps being cut by simultaneous adjustment of the burner bracket. Ellipses or spirals are cut by adjusting the burner bracket during rotation of the support. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the, machine may also operate with a pattern placed above the burner. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
