Abstract

311,961. Schaaf, O. June 13, 1928. Drills.-Relates to the driving of tunnels, shafts, drifts, &c. by forming a row of parallel holes in the tunnel &c. face, breaking away the material between the holes so as to form a slit, boring shot-holes on either side of the slit, and blasting. The parallel holes are formed by means of a guiding member a, Figs. 5 and 6, with holes b which successively receive a sleeve k forming a guide for a drill m, the member a being secured in position by screws f with conical ends g; the member a may be in two parts as shown, or may be in a single piece, the holes b then having diametrically-opposed notches to allow passage of the drill bit. The material between the holes is broken away by a tool o guided by a frame n which, as shewn, may be supported from adjacent boreholes by adjustable shoes r or may be supported from a single bore-hole by means of similar shoes spaced apart or by means of a circular member fitting the bore-hole.
