Abstract

310,624. Cole, A. J. March 22, 1928. Tobacco pipes. - The mouthpiece, stem, and lower part of the bowl are lined with non- absorbent material such as glass, glazed earthenware or china, or aluminium, forced into position so as to be non-removable. The mouthpiece lining 4 and the cup 9 in the base of the bowl may project within the stem lining 7 which thus forms a trap for moisture &c. The front end of the stem lining is hemispherical while at the other end. an inturned flange 8 completes the non-absorbent surface. The tubular part 10 may be inclined and the smoke passage may be restricted to the upper part of the tube 7 by fitting therein a hollow metal member 21 grooved along its upper surface 22. A similar tube may be fitted within an enlargement at the inner end of the mouthpiece passage. The cup 9 may be omitted, communication between the bowl and stem being by way of perforations in the lining 7, or may be replaced by a disc having a hollow shank depending therefrom. Absorbent material may be placed within the stem, and may consist of soft wood, paper, felt or cotton-cord.
