Abstract
309,639. Rhodes, C. J. Jan. 18, 1928. Metal-sheet feeds; spacing racks and like bars.-In a sheet metal press, particularly an automatic stagger punching-press, the work table is intermittently moved longitudinally of the press by a continuously moving endless belt to either of the, runs of which it is alternatelv clamped, stops being provided to hold the table against movement by the belt. The table 1, which has brackets 5 sliding on rods 5<1>, is clamped to either of the runs of a continuously driven endless belt 2 by clamps 11 secured to levers 8 pivoted on the rods 5<1> and drawn together by springs on rods 9. 'The levers 8 are connected by links 16 to a bar 18 provided with levers 19 which engage cams 21 on a rock shaft 6 at opposite ends of the traverse, so as to reverse the bar 18 and thus clamp the other run of the belt to the table for the return motion thereof. The table has a pair of oppositely facing spring- controlled pawls 14, 15, which in opposite movements of the table respectively engage spaced stops 7 in the rack shaft to hold the table stationary during operation, during which period the belt slips between the gripping surfaces.
