Sound and flash of discharge, modifying.-A silencer and flash-screen for firearms, comprises a casing A adapted to be attached to the muzzle of the firearm and provided with a number of partitions B, each having an aperture C for the passage of the projectile, and perforations b for the gradual escape of the propellent gases. These perforations may be disposed in concentric rings or in sectors or otherwise, the perforations of one partition being out of line with the perforations of the next partition and, if desired, of different diameters. Fig. 9 shows a construction intended for a machine gun. The casing A is cylindrical and the apertures C concentric therewith. The partitions B are discs separated by spacers a', and are kept assembled by a removable end plate a<3> provided with a device a<1> for attachment to the gun and with a plug a<6>, which may be removed to vent the casing A. The space between the end plate a<3> and the first partition B is larger than the spaces between the subsequent partitions. Ribs a<5> are formed on the casing and a water jacket may be added for cooling purposes. In another form intended for rifles, the apertures C are eccentrically disposed near the wall of the cylindrical casing. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 20692/04, 27584/08, 30240/09, and 241,526.
