307,547. Simms, F. R., and Joy, B. C. Nov. 14, 1927. Magnetic separators for cleansing lubricating oils consist of a bar or horseshoe magnet a fitted with a slidable gauze or like sleeve b of non-magnetic material in which the attracted ferrous particles are enmeshed but from which they are readily washed or otherwise removed when the sleeve is removed from the magnet. Preferably, the sleeve is extended beyond the end of the magnet to form a pocket b<2> in which the ferrous particles collect, and the whole is arranged in a plug or adaptor h. The sleeve may be replaced by a series of non-magnetic discs or washers or by a non-magnetic coiled spring, of flat, round, or other section, but preferably of coiled wire e.
