Abstract

Moulds for type-bar-making machines.-In mould-wheels carrying a number of moulds, in which the letters are aligned from a " universal line " situated between the upper and lower extremities of the letters, interchangeable mouldjaws are provided, and the size of each jaw in each mould is so selected as to provide the required width of mould-slot, and also to locate the slot so that the " universal line " of all the moulds is at the same distance from the centre of the wheel. The mould-jaws b, c, Fig. 1, are secured in apertures k in the mould-wheel a, the inner faces of all the apertures being at the same distance from the centre of the wheel. The thickness of the jaws of each mould are so selected that the inner faces of the jaws are at the required distance from the " universal line " for the particular size of slug to be cast. The apertures k and the jaws are stepped, as shown in Fig. 4, so as to provide a comparatively large surface for heat transmission, and to permit the surfaces of the jaws to be substantially flush with those of the wheel.
