Abstract
305,161. Eller, F. Feb.- 1, 1928, [Convention date]. Testing coins. - Coin-freed apparatus is provided with a shoot having a single slot for inserting coins of different denominations and equipped with an assorting passage and testing passages, the testing passages being provided with slots in their laterally inclined side walls of a height permitting coins of normal size to pass along the passage hut coins which are too small to drop through the slots. For assorting and testing coins of two different sizes, they are inserted through a slot a, Fig. 1, into a shoot d formed by two members b, c hinged together, the member c having a longitudinal slot comprising three sections f<1>, f<2>, f<3> of different breadth. Coins of less diameter than the smaller coin fall out through the section f<1>. The smaller coins fall through the section f<2> to a shoot g and the larger coins run through to a shoot k. Coins of less diameter than the larger coins run through the section f<3>. Coins that are too thin fall between the members b, c. Rejected coins are returned through a passage h to a tray i. In a modification, Fig. 3, the testing passages d<1>, d<2> for large and small coins respectively are arranged above each other. In front of the passage d<1> is a passage m communicating with a narrower passage n in front of the passage d<2>, so that there is a shoulder o between the parts m, n. A large coin of proper thickness runs on the shoulder o into the passage d'. If it is too small in diameter, it tilts through a slot p, and, if it is too thin, it drops past the shoulder o to the passage n, where it remains until the members b, c are opened by pressing a push button. The smaller coins drop through the passages m, n and roll along the passage d<2> which has a slot g for testing diameter. Too thin coins drop past a shoulder r at the bottom of the passage n and through a slot s to the reject shoot h. More than two sizes of coins may be tested by increasing the number of testing passages.
