Abstract

305,156. Saccaggio, P. C. Nov. 1, 1927. Controlling motors by varying terminal voltage; controllers, actuating, restraining, and locking.- In controlling a traction motor b, Fig. 1, by varying the field resistance d of an engine-driven generator a, the control member f, which may be a handle, or a servo device, is associated with a notched quadrant h<1> linked to a speed governor g, for the purpose of automatically adjusting the range of control to the rate at which the vehicle is travelling. In the modification shown in Fig. 2 the quadrant is linked to a floating lever q operated conjointly by two speed-governors, one on the driving shaft, the other on the generator shaft, for the purpose of allowing for irregularity of engine speed. The hand-lever f can be freed from constraint by pressing a trigger n, the same pressure breaking the power transmission circuit at a switch e. The trigger mechanism is arranged so that the switch e cannot be released until the handle f is brought within its original vange of movement
