Abstract

305,034. Zahnradfabrik Akt.-Ges. Jan. 26, 1928, [Convention date]. Variable-speed gearing suitable for vehicles comprises ratchets driven from an eccentric, the throw of which, and therefore the speed ratio, depends jointly on the revolutions and on the load resistance. The driving part of the eccentric is a circular groove 4 engaged by oscillators 5 which drive in one direction through one-way devices 7. The eccentric 8 in which groove 4 is formed is supported near one rim on a pivot bolt 9 secured to a driving fly-wheel 10. A spring 12 normally maintains the eccentric in idle central position abutting against a stop pin 11. The eccentric annulus 8 carries an unbalanced mass 8<1> which is responsive to revolutions so as to produce a swinging about bolt 9, and a consequent effective throw. This swinging is resisted by the reaction of the oscillators so that the resultant throw is a joint function. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect: 91 (3) (a) comprises an alternative arrangement in which the eccentric comprises an inner eccentric and an outer eccentric, the latter being turned upon the former automatically bv an unbalanced centrifugal mass. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
