Abstract

304,221. Evcichjevitz, B. Oct. 17, 1927. Doffing-arrangements. - In daffing-mechanism for spinning-machines of the kind described in Specification 251,156 comprising a carriage adapted to travel along the machine, to effect the removal of the bobbins of a section of the machine and the replacement by empty bobbins automatically delivered from a magazine, and maintained stationary in front of such section, the carriage is provided with a frame which is reciprocated horizontally and vertically so that pivoted grippers carried thereon engage and remove the full bobbins, and the empty bobbins are guided from magazine compartments on to the spindles and secured thereon by a hammer blow, the yarns and, if necessary, the separators being automatically moved to permit these operations. The carriage, which may be movable along the floor or be suspended, is provided with rollers 2, 3 which engage guide rails on the machine, and the mechanism is operated by a single handle or by mechanical means, through suitable gearing, the whole operations being completed by a single revolution of the handle. The gearing includes a grooved wheel 8 which controls a bar 7 carrying bolts 6 adapted to engage holes in the frame of the machine so that, unless the bolts are properly engaged and the carriage thereby correctly positioned, the gearing cannot be operated; a spring-controlled pawl 11 adapted to engage notches in the frame of the machine prevents shocks in positioning the carriage. A frame 21, 22 is moved horizontally by a cam 30 and vertically by a cam 39 and lever and chain mechanism, and controls and operates jaws 36 for gripping the bobbins, and the means whereby the yarns are moved to the rear of the spindles, and the separators turned on their pivots. The horizontal movement of the frame 21, 22 depresses levers 14 carrying a wire shaped to engage the yams, elevates levers 20 adapted to tilt the separators, and positions the jaws 36 adjacent to the bobbins. The frame 21, 22 is held in the advanced position by a pawl 28 and, when raised, causes the jaws to grip the full bobbins and to lift them from the spindles; in the topmost position a stop 45 disconnects the pawl 28, whereupon the frame is withdrawn by a spring 46 and, when it is lowered, the jaws are opened and the bobbins fall and are guided into a receptacle 84 by a plate 82. The jaws 36, Fig. 8, are provided with weights 37 to maintain them in a vertical position and are pivoted to lever arms 31, which are pivoted on a bar 32 and are connected at their upper ends by links 33 pivotally secured to the front bar 22 of the frame 21, 22. The bar 32 normally rests on a bar 47 so that the jaws 36 are open, but when the frame is raised they close and lift the bobbin from the spindle, and when the frame is lowered they are opened upon the re-engaging of the bar 32 with the bar 47 and release the bobbins. The bar 47 is moved forward simultaneously with the frame by means of fingers 49, Fig. 5, depending from the front bar 22, but is retracted by a spring 50, when the frame is raised, so as to be in correct position for engaging the bar 32 when the frame is lowered. Empty bobbins are stored in a magazine consisting of a number of compartments each comprising a channel bottom 51 and upper side ledges 52, and are ejected therefrom singly into guide channels 59 by means of a thrust plate 54 as and when gates 55 normally closing the fronts of the compartments are operated by guideways 63, Fig. 16, which are moved with the frame 21, 22 and are provided with switches 64 so as to oscillate, the bar 61, which carries the gates, during the upward movement only. The bobbins are retained in the channels 59 by a ledge 66 which is operated to release them to a guiding passage 67, which is raised to receive them by the frame and falls when the frame is released by the stop 45. The bobbins are initially stored in a flat box of corresponding shape to the magazine and provided with displaceable front and rear walls which are removed when the box is placed in the magazine. Spring- controlled hammers 74 connected to levels 78 are released by a cam and pawl when the empty bobbins are in place on the spindles and press them home. In a modification the bobbins are stacked horizontally in a magazine and are released singly therefrom by oscillating gates to a chamber shaped so as to turn them to a vertical position from which they pass to a vertically moving guide tube and are released therefrom to drop on to the spindles. The mechanism may be arranged to operate upon all the spindles of a machine at the same time, and then may be secured to the machine.
