Signals.-A device for initiating an operation comprises a small float which is raised to actuate a balanced train of levers by means of a pawl adapted to engage the longer arm of a check lever having arms of unequal length, the movement of the shorter arm thereof releasing a spring- controlled member to bring about the desired movement. As applied to prevent a liquid such as milk from boiling over, the raising of a float 2 secured to a rod 1 displaces a balanced arm 3 to the spindle of which a flat lever 5 is rigidly secured. A pawl 7 at the end of the lever 5 is thereby disengaged from the longer arm of a lever 6 pivoted at 34 and itself supporting by its shorter arm the longer arm of a second lever 9, pivoted at 36, which is thus freed. The lever 9 which normally supports a lever 10 pivoted at 37, releases that lever and a stop face 13 thereon ceases to arrest a pawl 39 connected to a drawbar 16 adapted to be actuated by a spring 12 held under compression when the face 13 engages the pawl 39. The draw-bar 16 actuates a gas tap or electric switch through a Bowden wire 17. To re-set the device, a slotted bar 25 is pulled to engage first a lever 31 which engages an arm 30 fixed to the spindle of the lever 10 to re-set that lever and then arms 29, 28 secured to the spindles of the levers 9, 6, the balance lever 3 is set by a lever 24 and finally the draw-bar 16 is pulled to its tensioned position by a hook 26. The device may be positioned above a milk vessel on a bracket 27. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises a tension spring 12 restrained by engagement of the pawl 39 with the opposite side of the member presenting the face 13. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
