Multiplying-apparatus.-The two factors are entered by means of keys, or by the sensing of a perforated record-card, and the product is obtained bv means of differential timed impulses representing the digits constituting the product. As shown in Fig. 1 the multiplicand keys 16 are adapted to close two circuits 29a, 29b leading respectively to brushes 28<a>, 28b contacting with sections of a commutator 26. The multiplier keys 15 similarly control a set of leads to brushes 1<b> - - 9b bearing against conductor bars 27<a>, 27<b> one for each commutator section. The multiplicand key, say 8, having been set, the multiplier key 6 is operated to render live the lines shown thick and through a bail 20 to complete the circuit of a magnet 13a to throw in the clutch 13 of the motor-driven counter. The commutator is also driven by this clutch, and according to the situation of the various contacts on the commutator in the sections concerned so differential timed impulses pass through the magnets 12 to throw in the clutches controlling the extent of rotation of the numeral wheels 10.
