Abstract

302,800. Cox, W. H. Dec. 15, 1927. Electricity, discharging. - A device for discharging static electricity from the moving parts of machinery consists of a pair of conducting bars suspended by insulating means over the machine from which the electricity is to be discharged and charge-absorbing members secured between the bars. In the form shown, the apparatus, which is suspended by hangers 2 from a beam 1, consists of two copper or other conducting bars 4, 5 socketted at their ends to receive adjustable, sliding insulating members 6, 7 for attachment to the hangers. The absorbing elements consist of outer layers 8, 9 of millboard and interleaved layers of tinfoil and tissue paper 11, 12. These are secured together by copper rivets and weak springs 14, 15 at their upper edges to enable the collecting tongues to separate, as shown by dotted lines, when the charge is being collected from the adjoining machine. For small machines the collected charges are absorbed by the atmosphere from the bars 4, 5, and in large machines, where considerable changes are being collected, a ground wire may be provided to lead the charges away.
