Stud-and-socket fastenings.-A fastening for use in connection with articles of jewellery or other purposes comprises a spring stud the parts 5, 6 of which are carried on the two parts 1, 2, of a hollow body, which parts are pivotally connected together by an axle 4 and are adapted to turn, to lock the fastening, under the action of a spring 7. Projecting parts 10, 11, one on each part 1, 2, are provided to limit the relative rotation. The spring stud is engaged in a non-expanding socket. e.g. in an adjacent hollow body, or, alternatively,. the fastening may have a non-expanding plug and an expanding socket. A modification of this latter kind is shown in Fig. 4, the sides of the socket being arranged on the vertical meeting edges 16 of the parts 1, 2. The hollow bodies may be of any form other than the spherical form shown, and the pivot axle 4 need not be centrally arranged on the body. The fastening may be used for connecting a number of spherical elements to form a string or a hollow body having one expand. ing socket only may be used as a safety device for scarf or hat pins.
