301,885. Tschakert, R. Dec. 8, 1927, [Convention date]. Joint-making packing. - Packing of the type comprising a washer of plastic material, such as asbestos paste, with a metallic reinforcement, is made from cord, formed in an extruding machine and comprising plastic material 1, Fig. 1, braided or otherwise covered with wire 3 and having a wire core 2, which may have a non- metallic covering. A length of the cord is bent into ring form and the ends of the core 2 and also the ends of the covering 3 are spliced together. The ring is then flattened in a press, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), comprising male and female dies 4, 1. The Specification as open to inspection under Sec. 91 (3) (a) states that the core of the packing may consist of asbestos, jute or cotton threads, with or without fine wire, and describes a modification in which a washer is formed by winding a composite thread into a spiral 8, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), and compressing it between plastic washers 9, 10. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
