Abstract
301,428. British Celanese, Ltd., (Assignees of Dreyfus, C., and Miles, G. W.). Nov. 29, 1927, [Convention date]. Paper, treating with special materials; pulp, adding speciad substances to; sizing. - Paper, sheets, boards or laminated products are prepared from paper pulp by mixing an organic substitution derivative of cellulose preferably in the form of fibres with the stock in a pulp beater, forming the product into sheets and thereafter fixing the cellulose derivative therein, the resultant material being water resistant and thermoplastic. High boiling solvents, plasticizers or softeners may also be added to the stock. The cellulose derivative is fixed by subjecting the sheets after removal of excess water to the action of high-pressure heated rollers, or by applying a solvent for the derivative by brushing, spraying, dipping or otherwise, coating and then evaporating the solvent, A number of sheets may be hot pressed together to form a laminated product. The cellulose derivative may be an organic ester of cellulose, preferably hydrated cellulose acetate in fibrous form. Alternatively cellulose, formate, propionate, butyrate or cellulose ether such as methyl, ethyl or benzyl cellulose may be used. The plasticizer, softener, or high boiling solvent may be diethyl phthalate, tricresyl or triphenyl phosphate, triacetin or diacetin; while acetone, alcohol, ether, benzene or ethylene dichloride may be used as the volatile solvent. The paper stock may comprise wood pulp, rag, leather or asbestos fibres, mineral wool or spun glass or a mixture of these materials. Filling or sizing materials, pigments or dyes may also be incorporated therein. The paper may be formed as ordinarily in a Fourdrinier machine, while in forming leather board the pulp is collected by suction on the surface of a revolving perforated cylinder, the layer slit, removed therefrom and dried. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to the use of inflammable cellulose nitrate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
