Abstract

301,406. Jones, J. W., and Harris, W. H. July 28, 1927. Pyrotechnic devices. - Flares and like lights are attached to a holder, which is detachably slid into a corresponding support on the aircraft, and the holder is provided with electric contacts connected to an electric igniter for the flare and adapted to bear against corresponding contacts on the support. A shield is arranged over and to one side of the flare, and the flare and its shield are supported in a sloping position. As shown, the flare holder comprises a shield 12, Fig. 1, a band clamp 14 for fastening the flare, a frame 11, and a member 2 formed with a tapered dovetail 3, Fig. 4, adapted to slide into a corresponding groove in a support 1 attached to the aircraft. Contacts 10 on the member 2 bear against contacts 6 on the support 1 and establish electrical communication between the flare, and the aircraft.
