Abstract

301,327. Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Ranger, R. H.). Nov. 25, 1927, [Convention date]. Copying-telegraphs, -In a copying-telegraph the object or image is scanned first in one direction and then in another. The picture to be transmitted is fed comparatively slowly by moving endless bands 20 bearing against a fixed semi-cylindrical supporting-plate 14. The object is scanned by two ring-shaped lights 53 mounted on opposite sides of a cylindrical carrier 41 which is rotated comparatively rapidly by a drum 11 and simultaneously traversed by a cam shaft 5 with reverse spiral grooves 47. As the carrier moves in one direction one light follows a diagonal groove 15 in the supporting plate and during the reverse movement the second light follows an opposite diagonal groove 16. The active scanning light is lit through a commutator 63 on the carrier. The light refiected by the object passes through the centre of the light, a lens 54, a, reflecting prism 56, and lens system 57, 58, 59 to a photo-electric cell 60. In the receiver the photo-electric cell may be replaced by a light source controlled by a shutter, but preferably air jets acting on heat-sensitive paper are used. According to a modification, the source of light in the transmitter is fixed at the end of the rotating drum and the light is directed to the picture by a quartz cone and reflected light passes through a similar cone to a moving photoelectric cell.
