Race games, mechanical.-A toy for use in playing a race game comprises a model race-horse, aeroplane &c. that is supported upon the forward and return leads of an endless belt, cord, wire or like member in such a manner that the model is caused to progress by the friction set up by the two leads of the belt in their passage in opposite directions against those parts of the model with which they engage. Two or more of the devices may be operated simultaneously by a corresponding number of players when playing the race game. As shown in Fig. 1, an endless cord g passes round pulleys c, e mounted on cramps a secured to opposite ends of the table. The forward and return leads of the cord pass through tubes j in a model race-horse h which is thereby supported. Upon movement of the cord by rotation of a handle d the model moves sometimes forwardly and sometimes backwardly owing to the irregularity of the friction between the tubes and the two leads. This irregularity may be increased bv knotting the cord. In a modification in which the model takes the form of an aeroplane Fig. 7, the lower tube j is replaced by a pulley p that drives a propellor l.
