Abstract

300,246. Soc. Anon. des Distilleries des Deux-Sevres. Nov. 10, 1927, [Convention date]. Addition to 296,974. Acetic acid.-In. the extraction of acetic acid from its aqueous solutions by means of a solvent such as amyl acetate having a boiling point higher than that of acetic acid but below 150‹ C., followed by the dehydration of the extract by distilling with an entraining liquid such as ethyl acetate as described in the parent Specification, the heating of the liquids, in the column 6 (in which the entraining liquid and water are distilled off) is effected by the heat of the vapour of acetic acid coming from. the still 11 in which it is separated from the solvent. For this purpose the vapour is passed from the top of the still through a coil 20 in the column 6, and condensed acid flows back by a pipe 21 to a vessel 23. Any uncondensed acid in the pipe 21 goes by a pipe 18 to the condenser 12, the condensate from which goes to the vessel 23 from which it is withdrawn at 13. If the heat supplied by the coil 20 is insufficient, steam heating by a coil 24 may be employed in addition.
