Abstract

300,119. Ingersoll-Rand Co., (Assignees of Hansen, C. C.). Nov. 5, 1927, [Convention date]. Subaqueous boring.-Subaqueous boring apparatus is provided with means to facilitate the boring of holes in predetermined positions. A barge &c. A, with anchoring spuds G, carries one or more derricks P supported by braces and trusses U, V, W, X, each derrick comprising a mast Q rotatably supported on a wheel T and a boom R pivoted to the mast. The wheel T is graduated and co-operates with a pointer 5 to facilitate setting of the mast; a scale y carried by the wheel T co-operates with a pointer 2 on the boom to facilitate setting of the latter. A member Y, rotatable in the free end of the boom, has guides for a column c adapted to rest on the sea &c. bed; the column c has guides for a slidable ladder g. carrying the rock drill L, and is also provided with a cage r for the drill operator. The ladder is adjusted by a cable t passing over a pulley u to hoisting means s. The column c is adjusted vertically by a cable h passing over a pulley j on the boom and sheaves k, o at the foot of the mast to a winding drum p. The boom is adjusted by a cable v which passes over sheaves w, o to a winding drum x. The mast is adjusted by a cable 6 passed round the wheel T and having its ends wound on drums 7, 8.
