Abstract

298,507. Williams, D. July 9, 1927. Reverberatory furnaces. - In a furnace for heating steel bars of the kind comprising a firebox A and a heating chamber B separated by a bridge wall C, and in which the gases from the chamber B are exhausted to the stack through flues G arranged to heat substantially the whole floor area of the heating-chamber, a perorated or checkerwork partition D extending to the roof of the furnace is interposed between the firebox and the heating-chamber. As shown the partition D forms an upward extension of the bridge C. The heating-gases leave the chamber B through damper-controlled openings P, Q and pass to symmetrically arranged sinuous flues F, K, which unite in the outlet flue N. The wall M between the two sets of flues may be omitted. Doors R<1> - - R<5> are provided for inspection and cleaning, and air may be admitted to the upper part of the firebox through the damper-controlled opening W.
