Abstract
298,173. Anderson, T. F., O'Brien, H., and Brown, B. G. H. June 23, 1927. Computing by drawing. - The summation of two or more curves is obtained mechanically. The given curves are in the form of templates c<1>, d<1> supported on a rotatable table b adapted to be turned through a quarter revolution by means of bevel and worm gear at p. Above the table is fixed a cruciform guide f and above this again is a pivoted parallelogram linkwork g the members of which are slotted to support slidable pins k, m engaging both the guide and the templates, weights l being provided to maintain contact with the templates. As the table is turned, the resultant curve is traced by a scriber n also slidably mounted in the linkwork and guided by the guide f. To vary the scale of the curve the pivot point h of the linkwork may be adjusted radially, and to alter the initial points of contact with the templates these may be pivotally supported in the table and be shifted relatively to it by worms q, r engaging the worm teeth on the table.
