Protective arrangem e n t s ; regulation, automatic. - H i g h - potential electric apparatus such as a transformer is provided with a thermally responsive system operating a relay or giving a signal when the temperature rises to a predetermined value. A thermally responsive element 3 intimately associated with the apparatus operates a movable part 8 to close, or change the resistance of, the circuit of the secondary 14 of a transformer. The primary 16 is heavily insulated at 23 from the secondary 14 and is connected to supply lines L<1>, L<2> through a relay 19 or other device operated when the current in the secondary 14 exceeds a certain value. The element 3 may comprise a bulb containing liquid which, on volatilizing expands a bellows 5 to operate the part 8 and so close the circuit at 11. A stop 9 prevents collapse of the bellows 5. The bulb 3 may be arranged between spaced windings 1, 2 of a transformer and may be brought near to, or in contact with, the conductor of the winding 1 by removing locally the insulation of the conductor. The conduit 4 from the element 3 to the bellows 5 may be of conductive material connected to the winding 1, the insulation 23 isolating the lines L', L<2> from the high potentials in the winding 1. The element 3 may be enclosed in a chamber 24 in an air-blast transformer, or mav be embedded in the coil 1 or surrounded by liquid insulation of the coil 1. The relay &c. 19 may operate or comprise a lamp, bell or other signal. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), comprises also the application of the thermally responsive system to the actuation of mechanism regulating the current in the winding 1. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
