Abstract
296,702. Wasser-und Luft-Fahrzeug- Ges., (Assignees of Luftfahrzeug-Ges.). Sept. 5, 1927, [Convention date]. Aerostats.-A valve for airships, balloons, &c. has its movable member provided on the side remote from the gas space with a readily collapsable chamber in communication with a space not subject to accidental variations of pressure. Fig. 1 shows a free balloon having a central gas discharge trunk a in which is arranged an annular bag b‹ having its inner wall secured to suspended rings e and its outer wall normally resting against slots a<1> in the trunk a communicating with the gas chamber. The bag b<0> communicates by a pipe d with the atmosphere away from the trunk a, or in some cases the bag may be merely left open at its lower end. Fig. 3 shows a modification for airships in which the chamber b‹ is formed by a bellows i connected to the spring loaded valve disc h and to a rigid frame k. A pipe d puts the chamber in communication with tha space o between the gas bags and the envelope. A similar valve for a captive balloon has its chamber connected to the air ballonet and is provided also with manual means for opening it. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprise also the following subject-matter. Fig. 6 (Cancelled) shows a valve for controlling the height of a free balloon. The chamber b<0> is suspended from bows k and has a disc v connected to the flexible wall of the chamber. A tube w connects the disc v to the valve disc h which is normally held closed by a spring z. An auxiliary valve x is initially held open by a weight y to put the chamber b‹ into communication with the gas space. When the weight y is removed to close the valve x the gas expands in the chamber b‹ as the balloon rises and opens the valve h. If the valve x is designed not to close completely, the valve h quickly shuts again and the altitude of a free balloon can thus be stabilized. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
