Abstract
296,610. Yates, T. J. Dec. 23, 1927. Valves closing after a predetermined interval or flow. - A slow closing valve device, particularly applicable for controlling the supplies of hot and cold water to a washing machine, is adapted to be held in one of its open positions by a pivoted pawl engaging a rack pivoted to the actuating- levers, which pawls are adapted to be released simultaneously by hand or by automatic mechanism. Each valve comprises a piston 22 packed by a ring 20 and slidably mounted in a cylinder 15 screwed into the top of the casing and provided with a valve washer 21 held in position by a nut 23 having a serrated flange adapted to pass into the seat aperture 12 to give a gradual cut off. A narrow bye-pass groove 33 which may be of uniform or gradually increasing depth connects the inlet 11 with the chamber above the piston. The valve spindle 25 is furnished with grooves 30 where it passes through the piston and carries a pilot valve 26 adapted to engage a seat 27 held in position by a flanged member 28 screwed in a recess in the top of the piston. When opening the valve by means of a weighted lever 36, the pilot valve first releases the pressure in the chamber, thereafter the pilot valve engages the flange 31 on the member 28 to move the main valve to its open position. Each valve is held m its open position by a pawl 42 engaging a rack 40 guided by a shaft 43 and pivoted at 41 to the actuating lever 36. The pawls are simultaneously released by a cross member 48 on a member 46 pivoted on the shaft 43 engaging triggers on the pawls. The releasing gear may be actuated by hand or may be connected by a rod 49 to a balance lever 51, Fig. 6, carrying a vessel 53 coupled to the receiving vessel by a flexible pipe 54. As the receiving vessel fills the weight of liquid in the vessel 53 increases so that when a predetermined level is reached the catch mechanism is released to allow both valves to close slowly.
