Abstract
296,443. Fabrique Nationale de Produits Chimiques et d'Explosifs Soc. Anon. Sept. 2, 1927, [Convention date]. Materials for making coke.-In the carbonization of coal, lignite, peat, or oil shale, oxidizing agents such as iron or manganese oxides or alkaline or alkaline earth carbonates are added to the charge before treatment. A larger yield of tar takes place, which is lighter and similar to crude petroleum. The resulting coke is hard, coherent, and very porous and is suitable for use in blast furnaces. If the additions consist of pulverulent iron ore , residues of roasted .pyrites, or manganese ore, these ores become agglomerated in the coke and may be charged with the latter into the reducing apparatus. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the coke containing metallic oxides or finely divided metals, may be used as a catalyst to produce by direct synthesis, condensable hydrocarbons and alcohols from the carbonic oxide, hydrogen, and gaseous hydrocarbons produced by the distillation. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
