Abstract
295,916. White, A. E., (Laughlin Filter Corporation). March 20, 1928. Strainer separators; discharging.-A spiral distributor is arranged inside a centrifugal strainer drum and is provided with blades, controlled entirely by centrifugal force, for contacting with the inner surface of the drum. The motor 35 drives the shaft 36 to which is keyed the hub 41 carrying the drum 46 provided with the helical flange 49. The motor also operates, through gearing, the structure 65 on the sleeve 37 so that this rotates at a speed different from that of the helical flange. The strainer drum wall consists of a perforated heavy filter screen 74, with the addition, in the part where liquid will pass, of filtering screens 76, 77. The strainer drum is attached to the structure 65 and carries rings 31, 32 working in parts of the fixed casing 20. The casing consists of a part 22 to receive the separated liquid which passes away through the pipe 25, and a part 25<1> for the separated solids which then pass into the pit 13. The end of the flange 49 is slotted and the part 60 on one side of the slot is shorter than the part 59 on the other. Blades 53 are placed in the slot and are retained by pins 58 passing through elongated slots 54. The material is fed to the machine through the pipe 81 and, owing to the rotation of the machine, the blades 53 move outwards, so that they carry the material forward. The liquid and fine material pass into the casing part 22, while the coarser particles travel to the end of the drum and pass through the openings 75 into the casing part 25<1>.
