Abstract

295,638. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Akt.-Ges. Aug. 15, 1927, [Convention date]. Rotary-tool implements.-The tools of a rotary ground-working machine are provided with torsional bar-shaped springs of round, rectangular, or other section instead of spiral or other flexion springs. The spring 3, Fig. 1, has a turned-over end held by a pin 5 in a slot in a disc 2 on the rotary spindle 1, the disc being provided with a cover 6. The spring may be made in two parts clamped together by plates 10 and bolts 11, which also secure the ground-working tool 8. The turnedover ends of the two parts are hooked over the bolts 11. The free end of the spring is provided with a collar 13 and mounted in a bearing disc 12 secured on the spindle 1 and provided with a cover 15. A square spring may be secured in an axial hole in a pin or block rotatably mounted in a disc and provided with a transverse tapered hole to receive the tool. Numerous discs 19, Fig. 6, may be mounted on the spindle 1 with a block 21 rotatably mounted in each pair, a tool 8 being secured in the block by a removable pin 22. The turned-over end of a spring 3 fits in a recess in the block 21, lateral escape being prevented by the corresponding disc 19. Each spring is secured in one or other, or both, of two end abutment discs 24, being passed through holes in the intermediate discs 19. The ends of the springs fit into edge recesses 25 and are secured by a cover 28. By turning the cover 28 holes 26 may be brought opposite the recesses 25 to allow of insertion or withdrawal of the springs. The discs 19 are provided with one or more concentric rings of holes to receive the springs 3. The cross-sections of the springs of different lengths may be such that equal forces applied to the springs will produce equal torsion. The ends of the springs may be squared or flattened to facilitate mounting.
