Abstract
295,590. Ferri, A. Aug. 13, 1927, [Convention date]. Combined hand and foot driving and hand steering mechanism.- The steering stem 1 is provided with a forwardly-extending bracket 2 carrying a transverse axis 3 for two oscillating levers 4, 5 fitted with hand grips 6, 7, which are connected by links 9 to the usual pedals 10, whereby the propelling action of the feet is supplemented by that of the hands, the pivot axis 3 being so positioned that the hand grips 6, 7 are in the same position as in ordinary cycles. In order to permit of unobstructed steering, the links 9 are each connected to the hand grips 6, 7 by means of a ball joint 8, Fig. 3, and a ball bearing 12 adapted to move along a bar 16 fixed to lugs 11 on the grip. In order to prevent the links 9 from fouling the top frame tube 13 during steering movements, the tube 13 is fitted with laterally-projecting stirrups carrying antifriction sleeves 15.
