Clearing-apparatus; thread-guides.- In a yarn-clearing device having a bearing-element 12, Fig. 1, across which the yarn y draws and a movable slub-detecting element 35 adapted to be moved by a slub to clamp the yarn against the member 12, one of said elements, e.g. the bearing-roller 12, is mounted on a lever 14 adjustable about its pivot 15 to vary the distance between the members 12, 35. The lever 14 is controlled by a member 10 positioned further from the pivot 15 than is the bearing-element 12. The detecting-member 35, which comprises thin plates 42 having staggered serrations 40 carried in a casing 43 and pivoted at 36, is manually swingable on a pivot 32 away from the line of the yarn against a spring 37 when it is necessary to clear a, slub or piece the broken yarn. The yarn passes through an eye 23 in a bottom guide-plate 21, 22 having a guard 24, Fig. 4, and through a top guide-eye 26 of porcelain, and any slub is adapted to engage a blade 53 and to raise the element 35 to the position shown at the right in Fig. 1 to sever the yarn. The element 35 is normally shielded by a curved guard 55 pivoted at 57 and having guide projections 63 on its forward end 62.
