Abstract
293,927. Pennell, R. H. L., and Brackett, F. W. April 29, 1927. Plant.-Liquid trades waste, such as the effluent from a beet-sugar factory is passed successively through a screen, which removes the larger solid matters, a settling- tank, and two or more filters, means being provided for drawing- off a part of the liquid before the last filter and re-circulating it for use in the factory processes. The apparatus shown comprises a screen a, settling-tank c, and filters d, e, g arranged so that the liquid passes upwards through the medium. The later filters are larger than the first so that the rate of flow is reduced. The purified liquid is collected in a channel h from which there are connections to discharge and for re-circulation of the water through the factory. Liquid passes from above the medium in the filter e to below the medium in the filter g through regulators f which can be partially or wholly closed, so that part or all of the liquid from the filters e may be collected in a channel l connected to the re-circulation conduit. Sludge collecting at the bottom of the tanks is discharged into a channel p through valves m operated by hand-wheels n and levers o. A duplicate series of filters is provided.
