Abstract
293,385. Krause, G. A. July 5, 1927, [Convention date]. Disinfecting; toxins; medicines for internal use; medicaments for external application.- Solids, liquids, and gases are sterilized and oligodynamically activated by contacting them in the presence of a liquid with oligodynamic ally active metals or alloys, particularly silver or copper or their alloys, the metals or alloys being in a non- colloidal form having a large surface area with a finely lamellated or finely sealed structure. Silver may be prepared in the desired form by carefully heating the tartrate or nitrate and finally gently igniting. The metals may be used in making sterilizing apparatus such as vessels, flasks, tubes, &c. The metals can impart their active properties to substances treated, e.g. a treated liquid may be used to sterilize, an untreated liquid. Treated water can be used for sterilizing air by washing, or by introducing it in mist or spray form into the air. The treated water may be used in preserving foodstuffs, such as meat and vegetables, or plant extracts and other technical preparations. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises the use of cadmium and palladium as oligodynamic metals. The metals may be deposited on asbestos, clay or other carriers of regular or irregular shape, e.g. by impregnating the carriers with the metal gels or with silver nitrate and then igniting. The carriers may have a chemical or physical action, e.g. oxidizing or absorbent, on the substance treated Solids may be treated with powders or suspensions of the metals which may afterwards he recovered by suction or washing followed by filtration or centrifuging. The. metals may be employed, if desired, on carriers or in powder form, as internal or external medicines. The action of tetanus, diphtheria and other toxins on the animal cell is weakened by means of the metals. The action of the metals may be aided by employing heating and cooling devices, by passing an electric current, by exposure to rays, and by imparting an intermittent or continuous motion to the, substances, e.g. by a stirrer, or a pump or other device for introducing a blast of air or other gas or vapour. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
