Compound-lever apparatus; vibrations, neutralizing; spring balances.-In a crane weighing-apparatus to minimize the shock to the indicating mechanism on the application of a load a spring is interposed in the compound lever mechanism and is adapted to remain rigid when .transmitting normal loads but to expand on the application of an excessive load. The weighing resistant is constituted by a spring and an auxiliary spring acting in opposition thereto, and means are provided for adjusting the .tension of the springs. In the form shown Figs. 1 and 2, the ring 3 to which the load is applied is swivelly mounted in a shackle 6 suspended from a knife edge 8a on a lever 8 one end of which is fulcrummed on a knife edge 8b in bearings carried by links 10 suspended from a knife edge 10a carried by the cross bars 11 of the casing 7. The other end of the lever 8 is connected through knife edge bearings and a link 12 with an intermediate lever 13 supported from the cross bars 11 by hangers 14 at one end and provided at the other end with a knife edge resting in a bearing block of a shackle 15 pivotally attached to the lower end of a coil spring 16. The upper end of the spring is connected to a shackle 17 depending from the shorter arm of the main lever 18, the fulcrum of which is carried by brackets 19. The longer arm of the lever 18 is provided with a knife edge from which is supported a shackle 20, yoke 21, and threaded bush 22 that carries the weight resistant spring 23, the lower end of which is connected to a shackle 24 having screws 25, 25a passing through a bracket 26 for adjusting the tension of the spring. Another spring 28 arranged in opposition to the spring 23 is connected to a shackle 28a and a bracket 27 and is provided with means for adjusting its tension. The outer end of the main lever is connected to a dash pot 30 and near thereto is a bracket 31 to which is pivotally attached a rack 32 meshing with a pinion 33 on the spindle 34 of the indicating pointer 36.
