Abstract

292,947. Guilbert, P., Legrand, J., and Lemaire, M. June 27, 1927, [Convention date]. Plant for and methods of relaying track.-A, track is relaid by a train on a parallel track. The train comprises (1) a crane truck, a platform truck and a second crane truck for taking up the old track, (2) a motor truck with dynamo supplying power to the cars, (3) an excavator wagon, (4) a screening wagon followed by two or more hopper wagons for the useless ballast, and (5) a second crane and platform set for supplying the new track. Ballast wagons may be added for making up the track with new ballast. Each crane 17, Fig. 2, is carried on a frame 14 with hinge 15 and screw adjustment 16 for levelling and has a roller block 19 running between irons 2J as the jibs are swung out over the old roadbed. The excavator, Fig. 3, has an endless chain of buckets 23 moving around a triangle with sides 24 - - 26 adjusted by racks or screws. The pivot 28 is hollow to convey the material on to a conveyer 30 leading to the screener 32, Fig. 6. The screened ballast passes back 'by lateral conveyers 37 to a transverse conveyer 38, Fig. 5, which throws it on to the road-bed. The spent ballast is led by a central conveyer 34 to a scraperconveyer 35, Fig. 7, having a channel with hinged base discharging into a hopper-car 7, the base being closed when the car is full and the spent ballast taken to the scraper-conveyer of the next hopper-car. The excavator and screener may be mounted on one truck. When the excavator and cranes are aligned lengthwise, the whole train is within maximum loading-gauge. In operation, the cleaned ballast is levelled manually, but the finished track can be tamped mechanically from a compressor truck at the end of the train.
