Abstract

Teeth, artificial. -A dental plate of high resistance metal such as rustless steel is hammered to shape on a metal die on which it is held by an adjustable clamping lever with an interposed mass of soft metal such as lead or tin on which the hammering proceeds from the centre towards the periphery of the die. The die 11 is mounted on the base 1 and the dental plate 14 roughly hammered to the shape of the plate is laid thereon and held by the end 4 of a lever 3 pivoted at 5 to a pedestal 2 and forced down by a nut 8 working on a screw 7 extending through a slot 6. The interposed soft metal is in the form of a strip 12 which at the beginning of the operation is wound into a single coil at the end and clamped between the flattened end 4 and the dental plate 14; successive coils are wound as the hammering proceeds from the centre outwards. The soft metal may be used in the form of a plate of the size of dental plate to be swaged instead of in strip form. Plates such as 13 of various shapes are interposed under the end 4 of the clamping lever.
