Conical mills; disc mills.-A grinding-mill for paints &c. is contained in a casing 8, Fig. 1, in which is an annular grinding disc 16 with which co-operates a plurality of planetarily-driven grinding-discs 15 which are mounted eccentrically on spur wheels 6 attached to rolls 2. The rolls 2 engage with a central roller 1. mounted on the driving-shaft 3 and with a lining 9 on the casing, the spur-wheels 6 engaging with spur-wheels 5 on the centre roll and with circular racks 7. The rolls 1, 2 and lining 9 may be cylindrical or conical and may be made of porcelain. The disc 16 may slide in the casing 8 and is provided on both faces with tangential grooves. The opposite face of the disc 16 is engaged by a disc 19 mounted on a boss 20 slidable on the shaft 3. The feeding-device comprises a hopper 10 with conical valve 12 adjustable in position by a handwheel 14, the material being fed by a worm 11 which may be arranged horizontally around the shaft 3. The material passes along the rollers and through the teeth of the spur-gears 5 - - 7, that part of the disc 15 immediately under the teeth of the spur-wheel 6 being recessed at 17, Fig. 3, and provided with holes 18 for the material to pass to the other side of the disc. Due to the movement of the discs 15 from the position shown in Fig. 3, to that shown in Fig. 4, there is effected a pumping action which forces the material through a pocket 21 in the disc 16 to the space between the grinding-discs 16, 19 where it is further ground and discharged through the orifice 27. Adjustment for pressure is obtained by a spring 22 mounted in a sleeve driven by the pulley 4, the sleeve driving the shaft 3 by a cotter b. The spacing of the rolls is determined by the adjustment of the screw 24 mounted in a screwed bush 25 and contacting with the end of the shaft 3. Adjustment between the discs 16, 19, is effected by screwing in the bush 25 which slides the boss 20 along the shaft 3. If the disc 16 is slidable in the casing 8 then adjustment of the bush 25 effects a variation in pressure between the discs 15, 16.
