291,676. Holfert, M. W. Nov. 4, 1927. Gauge glasses.-A liquid-level gauge for steam boilers comprises a gauge glass a secured in stuffing boxes d carried by the boiler fittings f, g. The outer ends of the passages in the fittings f, g are closed by glass discs m which may be formed as lenses, or may have lenses arranged above or below, or may be coloured. Small electric lamps o are arranged in hoods n, the inner surfaces of which may be reflecting, and an opaque float q follows the water level. One or both of the lamps may be coloured. The glass tube may have a protecting tube b, the inner surface of which may be light-coloured, and the glass itself may be in part opaque. A modification is described in which the gauge conduit is of metal, closed by a flat glass plate on one side. A lamp may be provided at the top only or at the ends, and the float may consist of a transparent coloured disc having a depending portion to keep it horizontal, or an opaque float may be used.
