Pliers.-Bowden cables are lubricated by bending the cable within the elastic limit so as to produce spaces between the coils of the casing, through which spaces lubricant is then injected. In the appliance shown, a curved jaw b is secured to a member a and a similarly curved jaw c is mounted at the end of a cylinder i which is slidable in apertured lugs h on the member a. The arm q of a lever p pivoted to the member a passes through a slot o in the cylinder i and engages a recess n in a spring-pressed piston m mounted in the cylinder. A lubricant container alpha containing a spring-pressed plunger and mounted on the member alpha is adapted to communicate with the interior of the cylinder through a port k therein. In operation, the cable d being arranged between the jaws b, c, the lever p is moved towards the member a so as to move the cylinder assembly towards the jaw b, whereby the cable is gripped between the jaws and bent into arcuate form. Continued movement of the lever causes the piston m to move forward in the cylinder, ejecting lubricant past a non-return valve v through the jaw c into the cable. As the parts are returned to normal position, a fresh charge of lubricant is drawn into the cylinder from the container e. The jaws are formed so as to prevent leakage. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the appliance may be arranged to stretch the cable instead of bending it. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
