Propelling by means other than adhesion driving-wheels and racks.-In tractors of the type driven by vertical blades 18 mounted on a chain, the working part of the latter has two inclined sections A, B, without an intervening horizontal section, so that the distances between the blades remain constant. The chain is carried by a frame 2 mounted on one side of a main wheeled chassis 1 carrying arcuate arms 12. The arms 12 rest on supports 11 loose on the axles 10 and may be retained in various positions to regulate the depth of working of the blades by teeth 29 operated by ropes 15. The blades are mounted on the pivots 19 of the chains, Fig. 4. They are held in rigid working position by engagement of an integral pin 21, Fig. 5, with a recess 22 in the links 17, a ball 21<a>, and a spring-pressed bolt 23. Change of inclination of the links relative to the blades after the point C has been passed is allowed by the withdrawal of the bolt 23 by means of a shaft 25, Fig. 4. This is formed with a helical rib 25<1> and carries a toothed wheel 27, which engages a rack at the point C and is thereby rotated. ' Rotation of the rib moves the bolt 23 axially. At the point D teeth 28 on the ends of the blades engage a second rack and cause the inclination of the blades to change as shown. In the new position the bolts 23 resume their former places and relock the blades. The power required for raising the frame 2 is obtained by driving the chassis 1 from left to right, Fig. 1.
