Dissolving organic compounds. - The ingredients of the preparation described in the parent Specification as suitable for the production of aqueous solutions of organic compounds, such as hydrocarbons, higher alcohols, and ketones, insoluble or difficultly soluble in water, and comprising sulphonic acids with soap-like properties, especially alkylated aromatic sulphonic acids, or their salts, and water soluble salts, may be mixed in the solid state, or the mixture may be produced when preparing the sulphonic acids and subsequently rendered solid. In an example, naphthalene is first converted into #-naphthalene sulphonic acid, by treatment with concentrated sulphuric acid, and then butylated by means of a mixture of ethyl-methyl-carbinol and concentrated sulphuric acid. The mass separates into two layers, and by neutralizing the upper layer with an alkali and evaporating, the sodium salt of butylated naphthalene sulphonic acid mixed with sodium sulphate is obtained in the solid state.
