Abstract

289,970. Breeden, F., Breeden, F. V., and Kirk, T. Feb. 8, 1927. Moulding-machines of the type described in Specification 17167/89 are provided with modified mould manipulating and sand ramming means. The flask and pattern plate travel on a truck 13 on rails 14 passing beneath the sand supply hoppers 10, a rack on the truck engaging toothed gearing on the hoppers to control the discharge. Ramming devices 16 are arranged in relation to the hoppers as shown, the ramming for the first and second stages are constructed and operate as described in Specification 290,149. The ramming at the final stage may be effected by a single cross-bar 16b. The flask then passes under a scraper 37 for the removal of surplus sand and a cover board is applied during the passage to a frame 27, Fig. 1a, serving to draw the pattern and invert the flask on to a conveyer (not shown). The frame is provided with fixed lugs at the rear end to engage the flask and with hand operated pivoted lugs at the front or entering end. The handle for operating these lugs serves also for inverting the frame on trunnions 28. The end section 14b of the track is trunnioned in a rising and falling frame 20 operable by a balanced hand lever on release of a pedal operated catch. The truck is retained in position during pattern drawing by a spring catch 31 cammed aside by the wheels. On lowering the frame 20 the rear end of the track 14b strikes a stop 26 causing the track to tilt, the spring catch 31 is tripped by a stop 33 and the truck is discharged down the inclined end of a lower track 17 and passes over a horizontal section to a rising section at the other end. One of the projections 18a on a driven chain 18 carries the truck up the incline temporarily raising in passing a pivoted section 14a of the upper track. When free from the projection 18a the truck runs back over the section 14a to the starting position.
