Counters actuated by revolving mechanism; counters with recording-arpparatus. - Deliveryapparatus for coaling locomotives from a bunker and for like purposes comprises hand-operated starting and stopping mechanism which is unlocked by a key and means for recording the quantity delivered arranged so that the key cannot be withdrawn until the delivery-mechanism has been stopped and the record printed. The record may include particulars of the key used, and there may also be a visible indication of the quantity delivered. In the example shown, the delivery-mechanism drives a sprocket which advances duplicate sets of counting-wheels 18, 19, 20 and 18<a>, 19<a>, 20<a>, Figs. 2 and 3, in the casing 6. The wheels 18, 19, 20 carry type for printing a record of the amount of coal delivered, and the wheels 18<a>, 19<a>, 20a show a similar record at a window 6<a>. The key 12 for unlocking the starting and stopping mechanism is inserted in a slot in the casing 6, and carries a distinguishing number 12<a> which is printed at the same time as the quantity record. For printing the record, the bar 27 is pushed in by hand and moves a platen 25 so as to bring the recording band 22 against the counting-wheels and key. After actuation of the delivery mechanism the bar 27 is pushed in to print the record and during its forward movement of the bar, a cam surface 51 moves the platen lever 26, a projection 27<a> engages the detent 15 and releases the rod 10, a cam 57<a> permits downward movement of a spring-pressed rod 54 and pawl 53, and a cam 70 passes a trigger 69 on a bell-crank lever 64. On the return movement of the bar 27, the platen is returned by a spring, the pawl 53 is raised and turns a ratchet-wheel 52 to advance the recording band, and the cam 70 actuates the bell-crank lever 64 to return the counting- wheels to zero. On withdrawing the key, the rod 10 descends and locks the controlling shaft. The counting mechanism comprises star-wheels driving the counting wheels through gearing and operated by one-toothed pinions on a countershaft. The zeroizing mechanism comprises a cam-rod 62 which passes through a slot in the end of the shaft 34 in order to move the starwheels laterally out of gear with the one-toothed pinions, arms 58 carrying rollers to engage and rotate heart-shaped cams 31b on the star-wheels, and connecting links 73, 72, 71 for disengaging centring pawls 31<c> from the star wheels.
