Printing yarns ; printing - surfaces.- In a machine for printing on hanks in which the hank is carried between printing-rollers by a pair of side chains, means are provided for supporting the hanks so that they are carried endwise between the rollers. The chains d pass round driving sprockets f, guide pulleys e, and adjustable pulleys e which form loops in the chains in front of and beyond the printing-rollers h, j, k. The printing-rollers and the shaft or the sprockets f are driven by a chain m from a shaft which can be connected by a clutch to a belt-driven pulley. The links of the chains d are provided with oval holes t to receive the ends of bars t' over which the hanks t<2> are looped. These bars are attached to the chains so that the hank loosely spans the left-hand loop in the chains and the machine is then started. As the chains travel forward the hank is tightened to an extent depending on the tension of the chains and passes in a taut condition between the printing-rollers. When the hank reaches the loop in the chains beyond the printing-rollers it again becomes slack and may be removed. The chains d are tensioned by - counter-weighted jockey pulleys g. Before being removed from the chain, the hanks may pass through a drying chamber. The printing-rollers comprise a number of longitudinal printing bars v, Fig. 4, separated by spacing bars w and clamped on a core u by end plates x. Different patterns can be printed by varying the grouping of the bars upon the core.
