Retractive switches; time-limit devices.-A short-time press-button switch for staircase lighting comprises a pressbutton a which in the downward movement actuates a rack c serving to rotate a pinion b<1> on a spindle e and energizes a clockwork-movement g by winding the spring f. An arm h on the spindle e engages with a tail-piece i on the pivoted contact-member l and moves the contact-member into engagement with the fixed contacts m, n where it is retained, for the time being, by a latch p drawn into the latching position by a spring v extending between the latch and a hook on the contact-member. When the press-button is released, the spindle e rotates slowly under the action of the spring clockwork and after an adjustable timeinterval a projection t on a time-adjustment disc s thereon engages the tail r of the latch and releases the contact-member which returns to the off position under the action of the spring v.
