Abstract

289,414. Auer, L. April 26, 1927, [Convention date]. Sulphuretted fats and oils.-The products obtained by heating natural and synthetic products containing unsaturated carbon compounds, such as fatty or mineral oils, with a metal, a metal oxide or hydroxide, or an organic base are subsequently subjected to a sulphurizing treatment, which may be carried out under heat or in the cold and if desired in moulds under pressure. The sulphur or sulphur chloride employed may be used in solution respectively in carbon bisulphide or white spirit or the solvent may be added separately to the reaction mixture. Accelerators such as hexamethylenetetramine, aniline, or diphenylguanidine may be added. Plastic materials may be obtained by the addition of fillers. In examples :-Castor oil is boiled under reduced pressure with metallic calcium until the latter is dissolved and the evolution of hydrogen has ceased. After cooling, the reaction mass is heated to 140‹ C., mixed with iron oxide, aniline, and sulphur, and further heated at 160‹ C., the product being moulded under pressure: and rosin is heated with stannic oxide until absorbed by the latter, and white spirit and sulphur chloride are added to the cooled mass. A varnish-like material is obtained by dissolving the product in a mixture of turpentine and petrol. Specification 4918/8S, [Class 140, Waterproof &c. fabrics], is referred to.
